Net Gambling — What You Always Wanted to Know Concerning It All

May 26th, 2008

The trouble of visiting a real life betting room gives us plenty of reasons to drop the idea unless you can’t avoid it. If you take a hard look at it all those traffic jams, the trouble, and to-do lists this entails don’t excuse the nuisance merely for that prospect of wagering at real life betting room, yet provided you are the type who thoroughly pines for gambling then choosing virtual games of chance is probably the evident answer. You won’t need to abandon your desk for a stint of online gambling since you can access it easily from your own home assuming you own a personal computer plus an internet connection. Nevertheless, do yourself a favor and read on because there’s various guidelines and things that you should pick up regarding online gambling, specifically if you’re lacking experience in this field.

The topmost thing that every savvy web gambler will make sure to look for is an online gambling webpage of the kind that can offer high winnings. Make a point of establishing that the online gambling webpage is controlled by a creditable certified public accountants company so as to verify the referenced online games’ payout percentage in a monthly manner. You definitely must take care to check that the virtual casino gaming webpage is actually verifiable, e.g. by exploring the government warrant on the casino site’s pages. If you’re unable to trace any government warrant on that virtual casino gaming webpage, do not think of betting there. Play top best online casinos games online now.

Yet another key tip would be to place a wager at first in trivial amounts instead of fooling away way too much on the spot. To begin with, check the integrity and status of the virtual casino gaming framework rather than chancing any dangerous adversity– specifically in regards to money! The last most consequential fact regarding virtual casino. It can only be never to forget that any kind of gambling should always be concerned with pleasurable entertainment and much less about making a buck. Betting in online casinos isn’t a livelihood, but, instead, a leisure pursuit that is intended to let you feel ecstatic and living fun. So simply having observed the above cues, you can succumb to the attraction of virtual casino gaming! :)

Web Host Ethics

May 25th, 2008

Okay, I’ve had to change web hosts half a dozen times in the
last year and I’ve noticed a pattern. It’s a very clear and
simple pattern, actually a series of behaviors on the part of
web hosting companies. These behaviors cause these companies to
lose customers and gain poor reputations.

To sum it all up in a single word: ethics. Web hosts need to act
ethically. As long as they are ethical towards their business
and customers, they thrive. When they become unethical, they
will fail.

What are web hosting company ethics? This is a code which all
hosting companies need to follow if they want to stay in
business for the long term.

The most important goal is up-time – Almost anything can be
forgiven as long as sites are up and running, as close to 100%
of the time as possible. Every feature provided by a hosting
company needs to be working and working properly. A small amount
of downtime (an hour or two in a month long period) is
acceptable, but more than that is not.

Every time I’ve had to change web hosts, this was the base
reason. Unexplained and unexpected downtime. Oh, there were many
excuses and many reasons which I’m sure were perfectly valid.
But the basic reason why I create and maintain a web site is so
people can see it – and they cannot see it if the site is down.

To make it even worse, sites which are down for a significant
length of time have side effects. Webrings owners often check
for broken rings using automated code – down sites will trigger
suspensions and even deletions. Search engines tend to drop
sites which are down too often or for too long a period of time.
And, of course, visitors may remove your site from their
bookmarks, thinking you have closed it or moved on.

The second most important goal is performance – I understand
that you want to jam as many sites on a single server as you
can. This is how you maximize your profits. Please understand
that all of the web sites which you host must perform well. So
don’t overload your servers.

Stay in communication – We all know that things happen.
Sometimes servers do crash and once in a while they require
maintenance. Let your customers know about important events. If
you are concerned that they might consider it spam, give your
customers the option to receive updates if they desire.

I had one host (Hostrocket) which performed, in my opinion, one
of the most hostile acts that I have ever seen against a paying
customer. I had a CGI script on my site which logged each 404
error in a text file. Normally this script was harmless and used
little CPU. Unfortunately, with the new breed of worms striking
the internet, 404 errors went way up and the script began using
large amounts of processor.

One day I tried to reach my site and didn’t get my friendly
front page. I got a “forbidden” error. I freaked out and sent
off a quick email to the web host support group. I didn’t
receive a response. Not a word (and it was only early
afternoon). I sent another, then another. Nothing. Finally, 18
frantic hours later, I received a note that my site was closed
down because of the script.

The number of four letter words that spewed from my mouth that
day would have turned a street girl’s face red. I was so angry -
not because they closed my site, but because these idiots
(again, Hostrocket) didn’t tell me what they had done. Because
of that, I wasted almost an entire day trying to figure out what
was wrong.

What I would have done had I been the technical person in their
company is simple. Just disable the script and send off an email
to the web site owner explaining why and telling him not to do
it again. If the owner ran the script again, then shut down the
site (and, of course, send another email).

Needless to say, I regained access to my site, copied my
databases to my hard drive, then switched web hosts. Within two
days I had moved my site to another, much better hosting service
(and, of course, I deleted the offending script).

Don’t test on your production servers – I know you want to
upgrade your Apache to the newest version or install the new
control panel right away, but please don’t immediately install
anything on your production servers. Believe me, your customers
don’t care about any of this – they want working sites. Saying
“everything is going slow because we upgraded” is not acceptable
- the host should know ALL side effects of any upgrades from
actual testing long before any change, however, small, is made
to a production system.

Do what you say you are going to do – I was with a hosting
company called Bizland for over a year. They were good most of
the time except for (a) excessive downtime, and (b) they didn’t
deliver on their promises. They kept saying CGI will be released
in April, then May, then June. Finally, I decided I could not
wait anymore (and also concluded the host was down too much) so
I moved my site.

Free hosting companies seem to have a bad habit of using
production systems as test beds. This is one of the strong
downsides to using free hosts – they really don’t care if your
site is up or not, as long as the advertisements are displayed.

Acknowledge your trouble tickets – One web hosting company that
I was with for quite a long time was Addr.com. These guys had
easily the best support so far. What stands out in my mind is
every single message that I sent got acknowledged by a human
being.

The sequence was as follows: I would send a trouble ticket and
get an automated response. A short time later, I got a note that
the ticket was handled. I always respond with a “thank you”,
because I’ve been a support person before and I understand the
power of getting thanked. Addr.com even responded to the thank
you with a “you are welcome” message!

To contrast, another hosting company (hostrocket again), had a
nasty habit of just closing tickets. I’d send in a question and
get an answer, then ask another question as follow-up. I would
never get a response, then check to see that the ticket was
marked “closed”. This is not the way to keep a customer happy.

Actually read your trouble tickets – I write very clearly in
trouble tickets, precisely because I’ve been a support person
and I know exactly what is needed. I’m constantly surprised at
how many times web host support people simply don’t read the
ticket and thus do the wrong thing.

One particularly glaring example was a ticket which I sent in
which said to set up a certain domain with bigmailbox. The
support person (from Hostrocket) changed the MX record for an
entirely different domain, in spite of my message clearly
stating “change it for domain xyz”. This caused my site to lose
email capability for two days until they eventually figured out
what they messed up.

Most importantly, remember where you get your money from – This
message is for all web hosting companies everywhere. Your money
comes from those people called webmasters. Free hosting
companies get their money indirectly via the content provided by
webmasters. With paid hosts the relationship is direct and to
the point – money is paid by webmasters.

If you annoy your customers or don’t provide service, then you
will find yourselves out of business. And in these days of a
looming recession, good customers are gold. Keep them happy and
your company will prosper.

If You Had These 3 Habits, Your Weight Loss Would Be Effortless

May 24th, 2008

Would you like to know how to make losing weight, no matter how many pounds, as simple as brushing your teeth? When you wake up in the morning or go to bed at night, do you dread having to brush your teeth? I know when I was a little kid, I hated to have to brush my teeth, but now it is not something I even think about. I just do it.

Imagine if your weight loss and weight management could be just something you do naturally. Not something that stresses you out, gets you upset, and makes you complain, “Why are other people so lucky they don’t have to deal with this?”

Let’s face it, “having to lose a couple of pounds” whether it’s a few of pounds or in the three digits, the process is not, “Yea, I won the lottery, what fun.” Having to lose weight can easily become an overwhelming event that bothers you all the time, crumbles your self confidence, is dangerous to your health, and if that wasn’t enough, it undermines your love life.

So, back to when I was a little one and brushing my teeth. I hated to brush my teeth, but then something changed. It wasn’t until I gave up fighting against brushing my teeth and accepted that is a very important thing for me to do, that it all changed.

Very shortly after that decision, brushing my teeth became a habit that I did in the morning and at night without even thinking about it. The action of brushing my teeth didn’t change, but my reaction to having to brush my teeth did and it made all the difference.

So, how does this apply to losing weight? What if there are three actions you can take that once they are made into habits, your weight loss will become natural and you wouldn’t even have to think about? You will get to be the person that everyone else envies saying, “Why is it so easy for him/her to look so great?”

Would it be worth it to accept these three new actions into your life and make them habits, if they will guarantee effortless weight loss that you don’t even have to think about?

How about if those actions also provide outstanding health?

I must warn you that there will be a level of discomfort in making these actions into habits, only because you are in the habit of not doing them. Normally, people mislabel this as hard, when in reality, it just feels different because it is new.

But feeling different is a good thing. That means you are changing and opening the doors to your new life. Are you ready to find out what those actions are? They are not earth shattering, but you can not get around them and until you accept them and turn them into habits, you will end up fighting natural laws and struggling the rest of your life.

Finally, those three actions are; consistent exercise, eating healthy, and reduction of stress. Simple? Yes, but stay with me here. Imagine if you did consistently take these three actions and they became habits. We are talking about taking the above actions without thinking and without feeling that you are getting deprived.

It’s easy to say your weight loss would be effortless; however, the only real road blocks are turning those actions to habits. Unfortunately, we were not taught a systematic means to destroy old habits and build powerful new ones.

I invite you to stop the struggle of fighting against the natural laws of the human body. One way or another, it will all come back to consistent exercise, eating healthy and reduction of stress, to achieve lasting results. Turn those simple actions into habits and you will end your weight loss struggles forever.

Workplace Fireworks: How to Know When Conflict Is Destructive

May 24th, 2008

Remember Scotty on Star Trek? Perhaps it’s just my recollection from childhood or perhaps he actually said it frequently: When asked by Captain Kirk to push the ship’s engine hard, he’d say in that pseudo-Scottish accent, “Cap’n, I can’t push it any harder. I think it’s going to blow!

In workplace conflict, how do you know when it’s escalating to the point it’s going to blow? And at what point should you intervene?

Know How to Identify Constructive Conflict

Loud or intense conflict is not necessarily destructive conflict. While it’s reasonable to expect a certain level of decorum in the workplace, keep in mind that the degree of emotion expressed in conflict is due, in part, to cultural upbringing and socialization. If you intervene too early in a conflict that’s still constructive, then you risk getting in the way of the participants working it out themselves and the learning and development that comes from that.

Some hints that the conflict is still constructive include:

  • There’s forward movement in the conversation-even if it’s unfriendly, they still seem to be making progress and continuing to explore and negotiate.
  • Those involved seem reasonably comfortable with the degree of intensity and aren’t experiencing it as coercion.
  • The things being expressed may be difficult to hear but are not intended to inflict harm or intimidate.

Recognize Warning Signs of Destructive Conflict

Destructive conflict will often include a number of these signs:

  • The players have become rigid in their positions, so dug in and entrenched that they’re spinning they’re wheels.
  • Direct communication between the parties is diminishing or absent. They may be using a third person as a go-between or are avoiding each other entirely.
  • The dispute seems to have become more about defeating the other person than about the initial issues.
  • The dispute has begun to involve others, as the players look to people around them for support, sympathy or power.
  • Regular work or daily life is disrupted and the parties are losing time and energy to the conflict itself.
  • One or more of the people involved seem to view almost everything the other does through a filter of mistrust, suspicion or threat.
  • Retaliation or getting even has become important and attempts at coercion are becoming more frequent.

Beware of Adapting the Organization to the Conflict

It’s not uncommon for organizations to try adapting around the conflict. Reporting structures are changed, job descriptions and assignments altered, communication channels modified. These approaches have merit when those involved in the conflict are employees you want to keep on board, when the adaptations don’t create other problems in the organization, and when the modifications don’t simply allow the conflict to go underground, which usually leads to trouble in the long run.

There are times when it benefits the organization to try sorting out the conflict for real. When organizations choose this route, you demonstrate commitment to the great creativity that comes from well-managed conflict, to employees’ growth and development, and to building the kind of enduring work relationships that contribute to a satisfying work environment. While such commitment may take more organizational effort on the front end, it usually results in significant long-term savings of time, energy, and productivity.

You can choose to try working through the conflict with your human resources department or other skilled personnel. There are times it’s worth hiring a professional, confidential mediator or dispute resolution consultant to pick up where most human resources personnel aren’t trained to trek.

Empowering Your Managers

May 24th, 2008

“So much of what we call management consists in making it
difficult for people to work.” – Peter Drucker

Managing is often equated with controls rather than leading and
developing a business. The manager feels more comfortable and
secure when they are able to put in strict controls on
everything that happens in a business organization. This is so
especially of Senior Managements where the controls and
directing becomes so severe that it erodes any creative freedom
for the middle managers to work towards achieving the goals set
out for them.

Here are a few simple prescriptions to get the best out of your
managers.

Avoid Centralizing Decision Making

This is perhaps one of the best ways to achieve totals control.
You feel by centralizing decision making you will be able to
avoid wrong decisions. While this may be so to some extent who
is to prevent your own wrong decisions. Unless your managers are
able to make mistakes and learn from them you will never be able
to develop expertise through experience. Centralizing decision
making is also the surest method to kill your business growth.

Provide Working Space

The top management often entrust tasks and responsibilities to
their subordinate managers. More often than not any specific
time frames which are comfortable to achieve the given
responsibilities or tasks are discussed. However in their
anxiety or aggressiveness and sometimes over enthusiasm you
start chasing your subordinate for action and results. If you do
it too soon and too often you are severely limited the working
space of your managers. They may be spending more time in
complying with your commands rather than focusing on operational
priorities and important tasks.

If you are not providing sufficient working space for your
managers you are surely heading towards disaster as important
tasks may be getting neglected to escape from your frequent and
aggressive follow ups.

Listen to Your Managers

While experience is an asset it also makes one arrogant and
conceited. Sometimes one tends to believe because he is the
superior, he always right. The Boss Is Always Right principle
looks good only on posters. It doesn’t work if you want to build
a Professional organization.

Cultivate the ability to listen to the voice of your managers.
Most times they know better as they are more familiar with the
ground realities. If you decide on their behalf and just issue
orders, you will have clerks in the guise of managers as you
have killed their initiative.

Don’t Get Into Petty Details

Once broad goals and objectives are set with specific time
frames and key results are outlined leave your managers to
perform. If you get into too many details and meddle with the
execution at every stage, you may be sure to mess up the entire
process and ultimately the results.

The key to managing effectively is to empower people across the
management structure so that they feel part of the
responsibility and ownership.

How to choose your garden furniture and make it last

May 24th, 2008

Garden furniture is now a fashion item as the patio and garden increasingly become an additional functional space to the home.

Before you buy any garden furniture it is strongly recommended that you do some research. Doing so will greatly increase your chances of buying garden furniture that is right for you and will last you a long time. Following are some important tips you need to consider before you buy.

Firstly decide whether you want stackable or foldaway furniture that will be put away in the shed or garage in winter or if you want permanent solid garden furniture that remains in situ all year round. If you want your garden furniture to be a permanent part of your garden for esthetic reasons then it is recommended that you go for heavy furniture made from hardwood, aluminum or wrought iron with rust proofing. It is well worth spending the money on the heavier more durable materials as this will be much more cost effective in the long run.

Choosing the right type of material and construction is paramount. Decide what kind of material for your garden furniture would best compliment your patio or garden. Select a material that will stay in balance with your garden.

Wood is the best all round as it is lightweight, esthetically pleasing and comfortable but requires some maintenance. Choose a tropical hardwood which is high in natural oil content like teak, iroko or courbaril. These woods are weather resistant and can be left outside throughout the year.

Make sure that mortice and tenon joints are used for your teak garden furniture and not bolts which corrode. If any metal fittings are used in the construction make sure they are made from brass, stainless steel or aluminum which are corrosion resistant.

Make sure the construction is only premium grade teak for our garden furniture, so any knots, cracks and other defects are eliminated before the timber is used to build the furniture. Additionally, Make sure your teak garden furniture is kiln dried to optimise moisture content and ensure shape is maintained and cracks are eliminated.

Teak garden furniture that is assembled using epoxy based glues tend to have the best performance and durability of all the types of joints as the epoxy resin used will not be affected by rain or frost.

If your teak garden furniture becomes dirty it is easy to clean with warm soapy water and a scrubbing brush which will enable you to restore the beautiful silver grey weathered look. If required a pressure hose can be used at 60-80 bar [900-1200psi] at a distance of no less than 30cm.

Once your teak garden furniture has weathered the colour will be enhanced by an annual scrub. A small amount of bleach added to the water will suppress any algae growth.

Any stains and grease spots can be immediately removed by washing down using a light detergent then rinsing off with clean water as soon as they occur. However, this is not essential as nature will take its course over time.

In dry weather small cracks will appear in the end of the grain timbers. This is natural and no action needs to be taken as when the moisture in the atmosphere increases the timber will return to its original condition.

It is not necessary to use teak oil or varnish as these will not extend the life of your garden furniture and are purely cosmetic. However, if you wish to preserve the as new appearance of your teak garden furniture the application of teak oil when the furniture is new will give a more lustre finish than leaving untouched. Please ensure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions as usually this is a three stage process. Make sure the timber is completely dry when you apply the teak oil, otherwise the furniture will blacken.

Wrought iron garden furniture generally looks the best as it is usually hand crafted to give a unique look. The disadvantages of wrought iron furniture is that it is not as comfortable as wood and heavier to move around. Additionally, iron rusts so wrought iron garden furniture has to be especially coated to prevent it from rusting so make sure the supplier gives you at least a one year warranty against rust.

Finally, if you can, it is recommended that you invest in a cover for your garden furniture. Covers now come in all shapes and sizes and are well worth the money as they add years to the life of your garden furniture. Simply place the cover on your garden furniture every evening or when it rains, you will see the benefits in the long term.

Angus Charlton is managing director of Arboreta Garden Furniture Store ( www.arboreta.co.uk ). He is a keen gardener who has developed a garden furniture business that resources from sustainable rainforests and contributes to the art of Feng Shui for gardens.

Gambling on Sports

May 23rd, 2008

Sports gambling is a little similar to what is called sports betting. Here, sports gambling is a numbers game, wherein a particular individual bets for a team (in basketball, for example) to win. If he wins, he doubles the mount of money he has wagered. If he loses, he gives away what he has bet to his opponent. In effect, sports gambling is a predictor game – to just predict and predict the outcome of a game.

There are some people who consider online sports gambling as just a form of hobby while there are those that treat sports gambling as a threat to official sports, as there are matches that get fixed and seem to be illegal. On the internet and even in real sports gambling, there are what is called bookmaker, or in some internet sites, they are called “bookies”, where they are generally found all over the world. Bookies accept wagers from potential clients, and they earn their commission from a portion of the bets that are wagered.

There are actually two types of ways in which a bookie accept his wager on the internet – a point spread wager or a straight-up line money bet. Bookies that are located in Europe and Asia usually use the straight-up method, in which its quote is based on the payout of a single bet. On the other hand, there are those bookies which use the point spread wager, and these involve the sports of American football and basketball. Point spread has the bettor wager $110 to win $100, for example. Read more about Sports Wagering at Playsportal.net.

Pitbulls Are There Different Types?

May 23rd, 2008

PitBulls

Are there different types of Pitbulls?

The answer to this question depends on who you ask. As most
people know that “Pit Bulls” were a breed developed for their
ability to fight. The basic breeds used in the breeding were a
“Bull Dog”

and a “Terrier.” This is based on historical information much of
which came from accounts of the dogs used in the popular sport
of “Bull &

Bear-baiting in the British Isles. However there have been
many other breeds added to the genetic mix through the years by
various breeders trying to improve on the fighting

prowess of the Pitbull. The fact that dog fighters closely
guarded their champions bloodline makes it virtually impossible
to make a definitive statement of what a ”

Pitbull” really is. Even today the pitbull is the most
misunderstood dog on the planet. In the early 1900″s the name
“American Pit Bull Terrier” was chosen by the American founder
of the United Kennel Club, C.Z. Bennet. The

UKC became the official registry for the “American Pit Bull
Terrier.” It also set the official rules governing dog fighting
and the dimensions of

the pits used in the events. The UKC of today does not support
any type of dog fighting or breeding of any dog for this illegal
activity. The UKC is still the primary

registrar for the APT but also list over 200 other breeds of
dogs in its registry. Political correctness adds to the
confusion of the Pitbull. The other major registry of dog
breeds in the United States is the American Kennel Club (AKC).
Now the AKC repeatedly rejected the American Pitbull Terrier for
inclusion into its official breed listing apparently because it
didn’t care for

the word “PIT” in the name and the fact that the UKC sanctioned
dog fighting at the time. Eventually the breeders of the APBT
conceded to a

name change. The new name (for the same breed of dog) was The
Staffordshier Terrier. This name change enabled the breeders
to gain acceptance into the AKC in 1936. But wait! The name
game isn’t over yet. The Kennel Club of England’s
Staffordshier Bull Terrier was admitted to the AKC in 1974. So
in an effort to prevent confusion (too late!) the

AKC wanted the breeds name changed one more time to…(drum
roll) “The American Staffordshier Terrier.” So today we
essentially have the two major kennel clubs in the United States
registering the same breed of dog under different names.

It seems that not much is cut and dry when it comes to defining
pitbulls. This only adds to the general publics confusion of
just what is a

pitbull.

Pitbulls are the villain of choice today when it comes to
viscous dog attacks, some of which are deserved. A powerful
athletic dog such as a

pitbull that has been mistreated or bred to fight is definitely
a danger to people and other animals. But a pitbull bred for its
temperament from

a quality breeder many feel are the loyalist companion in the
world.

How To Select a Great Topic For Your Book or Ebook Part 5 of 5

May 23rd, 2008

These are fiery hot topics that are sure to be on the rise. You
can pull any one of these to use for your first ebook. Then come
back and pull another topic for your next ebook.

Using the latest electronics. We are a society obsessed with
having the latest and greatest technology. Do an ebook on iPods,
email/camera cell phones, wireless Internet, digital TV, or any
combination of these items.

Home improvement. There’s so much of a craze in this area that
do-it-yourself (DIY) stores are on every corner of major cities.
If you haven’t been to a Home Depot or Lowe’s lately, then you
are one of the few. Sure, apartment dwellers and young students
aren’t in this market, but people with homes and money to afford
them are in this market. In fact, some cable TV services offer
entire channels dedicated to home improvement.

Especially of current interest are in-home automation systems.
DIY home improvers are eager to learn about and buy things that
will make their home lives more relaxing, high-tech, or fun.
Create a book to teach them how to make their lights come on for
them before they get home from their jobs, or how to press a
button to adjust window blinds, music, or temperature. Or how
Bill Gates’ house works. Or how to add automation to an existing
home, or how to build-in automation when a house is constructed.

Identity theft prevention. Especially because ebooks are
marketed on the Internet, this is a great topic. This is because
people who purchase over the Internet are concerned that their
credit card numbers will not be seen by others or misused in any
way. Even away from the computer though, consumers are on-edge
about identity theft. Today, people are shredding their
receipts, removing their personal information from the face of
their checks, and cautiously covering themselves when they type
in passwords at public terminals or ATMs. Microchips are being
installed on ID cards. People are worried. Tap into this by writing an ebook about it!

Safety. Along the same lines as worrying about identity theft,
people are worried about their safety from other things like
crime, chemical warfare attack, and natural disasters. Watch the
evening news tonight, and you will be able to list at least
twenty things that people are afraid of. When you talk about
safety, you are speaking their language. Titles along the lines
of be prepared for any natural disaster would go over well, as
would those like never be a crime victim again, how to defend
yourself in a parking lot, or prevent sudden infant death
syndrome (SIDS).

How-to manuals for any new product recently on the market. This
harks back to the Dummies series but takes it one step further.
Target your ebook to people who want to buy the most current
commercially available item. How to use the new model John Deere
tractor. You will be sure that no one else has a book like
yours, and you can say so in your sales pitch.

How to survive any phase of life. People face numerous demons
and battles as they live their lives. For many, when they’re in
need, they’ll be reaching out for help. Support groups, private
therapy, being with friends, starting over – these are all solid
topics for an ebook. You could also reach out specifically to
certain people needing emotional assistance. How to get through
the terrible two’s. How to cope with a cancer diagnosis. Living
with your own shortcomings. How to live with someone who is
dying. Surviving high school. Any of these will do.

Anything to do with pets. People are pampering their pets more
than ever before. Some pets are treated better than people. It’s
the people who spend small fortunes on their dogs (and other
animals) that will also be willing to pay good money for an
ebook that gives them ideas on how to treat their animals even
more royally than they already do.

Write books on how to pamper your parakeet, homemade meals for
picky dogs, how to potty train a
puppy, where the pet spas are, how to train your kids to be
cat-friendly, million dollar homes for mutts, which animals make
the best pets, or pet psychology.

Traveling mixed with the subjects above. Not only are people
traveling like crazy, but they want to customize their
itineraries and their methods of travel with their hobbies and
lifestyles. Try a few of these on for size: where to dine around
the globe and still stay on a low-carb diet plan. Hotels with
the best exercise facilities. How to travel exquisitely with
large dogs. Crime-proof your campsite. Be creative. There’s a
market here.

Using the Internet to meet people. As I said, the craze is upon
us. Everyone’s online, and sometimes folks spend more time
chatting with Internet buddies than they do talking face to face
with actual friends. I know I’ve been guilty of this one myself.
Anyway, along with the advent of the World Wide Web, came people
who need a little help figuring out how to get where they want
to get. They want to find like-minded people, find a date, find
love, find support.

There’s a huge ebook market for hooking people up with people
online. Here are just a few things that could be covered: speed
dating online, virtual music jams, taking online classes,
hooking up with people who share your hobby, and finding online
support groups. Any of these and more are of interest to people
who wish to get maximum benefit from their ability, thanks to
the Internet, to network with people in the farthest reaches of
the world. In fact one of the appeals with online communing is
that distance does not matter. Help these people in foreign
lands find each other with an ebook.

Topics of special interest to women. The facts don’t lie. Women
dominate the Internet, and they spend or influence spending of
80 cents for every dollar changing hands. What women want has
never been so important to business owners and authors.

Certain topics appeal particularly to the female set. These
include beauty, health, decorating, emotional support, and life
enrichment. Women do a few things, generally, that men don’t.
They play bunko, wear make-up, and talk for hours to their
girlfriends on the phone. They send more greeting cards, prepare
more casseroles, and vacuum more often than men. They eat more
salads and go shopping more often for clothes. They get more
pedicures and love to dance more than the average man. There are
two things to keep in mind with regards to women and ebooks. If
you want to attract a female market, you need to write about a
topic that women like to read about, and you want to make the
title friendly towards women.

Here’s a female-oriented subject and title: Where to find great
shopping bargains in Taos. And here’s a male subject: Where to
catch the most fish in Taos.

Here’s a female-friendly title (same as above): Where to find
great shopping bargains in Taos. And here’s a male-friendly
title on the same subject: Keep your money in your pocket in
Taos. See the difference? Know your market, and if you need to
choose between one or the other, you’re safe going with the
women’s title.

Sex. People don’t need to sneak out of bookstores with erotic
books in their hands anymore, and they know it. They are looking
on the Internet for sex materials, toys, and books. The Internet
is private, individuals can take their sweet time, and indeed
they can surf with or without a lover sharing their chair.
There’s been a recent ebook success entitled Orgasms for two.
There is room for more similar ebooks. On the subject of sex,
this is one case where a fiction book may also do the trick. You
could create erotic short stories or a how-to-have-great-sex
ebook. Either ebook would entice adults interested in this
category (and incidentally, most adults are indeed interested in
this category).

I hope this massive brainstorming session has been helpful to
you! If you still don’t have any ideas, go back and read every
article in this series. If you still can’t think of an idea
after that, maybe you shouldn’t be writing a book after all.
Thanks again for reading, and best wishes for your writing.
