Tips to Increasing your Vertical Jump

June 16th, 2008

By building upper body strength you will be able to increase vertical jump higher than before. But of course this means you really have to work at it and not just hope it will come one day. While practicing may help you need to do the right exercises to get the results you want.

Try some of the following:

- run up and down stairs on your tiptoes

- squats

- lose weight, but this is only for those that need to lose weight. If you are already fit, this probably won’t help. Tone up a bit if you think you need it by doing some sit ups or push pus.

- spints will help strengthen not only your calves but your leg muscles as well.

- jumps such as elevated, double jumping, jump rope, etc. Any form of jumping will help. Try to keep track of how high or far you jump by logging it in a book.

Many people believe that by doing it every day for so many hours they’ll get to increase vertical jump faster but this is not the case. You do need to rest for a day or two to let the muscles begin to form and rest at the same time. If you do not rest you can end up pulling something. Always remember to stretch before any work out.
