Popularity of Universal’s PictureBox Makes Virgin Media Jump on The Bandwagon

July 9th, 2009

The latest report of a tie up between Virgin Media and Universal for the PictureBox service has made Belinda Menendez, president, NBC Universal International TV Distribution, quite happy. She has seen Universal’s PictureBox reach grow as much as five times since its launch only about three years ago and a tie up with Virgin Media which, will make PictureBox available to about 3.7 million viewers in the UK, is another feather in Universal’s cap.

The deal seems like a win-win situation for all the parties involved. The customers of Virgin media will be able to get a taste of PictureBox from this July. They will have a line up of 28 blockbusters to choose from and new flicks will be added to the list every Friday, with some of them being in HD. All of this will be available at a reasonable price of £5 per month, which can be paid along with the other subscription charges of Virgin Media services – click on broadband deals for more info on this service and to be able to compare it with other options.

New Virgin Media customers who opt for a bundle including Broadband, Phone and TV will be able to access the PictureBox Service. Old customers will also be able to sign up for the service.

The line-up of films that will be available through the Virgin Media TV platform has already been confirmed. It will include Hot Fuzz, The Holiday, Children of Men, The Bourne Ultimatum and classics like ET- The Extra Terrestrial.

Virgin Media is providing its Size L Broadband and TV (M) package with speeds up to 10Mb and free downloads, along with a credit of £20 and free installation for new customers. To take full advantage of the deal, sign ups must be completed before 30 July 2009.
