Programming – a Good Career for those Who Work from Home
Getting up every morning and joining the rat race, fighting to get to work on time, sitting in endless traffic and becoming frustrated are all part of the daily commute to work for most people. In some cases, getting to the office can add a few extra hours onto the working day and not leave much time for anything else.
The solution for many is working from home. Commuting from the bedroom to the home office is nowhere near as stressful and can save a lot of hassle! Typical jobs were working from home is feasible on a day to day basis are computer programming, application software development and web design – usually work that can be completed from a computer with an Internet connection.
As communication over the internet has improved, including instant chat, video chat and file transfer working from home has become a real possibility for many.
The advantages of working from home, aside from the lack of commuting needed include: having more time to spend actually working, reduced stress and time to adapt after a long journey to work, less time spent chatting to colleagues leading to more productive time spent completing work. However, there are drawbacks, it can be easy to become distracted at home especially if you have children or pets. It can also become difficult to know when to stop working! Rest is important and it can be easy to become work obsessed if clear boundaries aren’t set to differentiate between home and work.
If you think working from home could be for you, approach your employer and explain why you think it will benefit the business. Most people have very different views on the subject so don’t be surprised if they don’t see things from your perspective. If they do agree, prepare to become very self motivated and learn to split your work and personal responsibilities in a sensible manner.
