Man Sentenced to Six Weeks in Jail for Abusing Rail Worker
On the wee hours of Saturday, February the 6th, Teisutis Macius who was asked to exit the Wembley Park Tube Station due to his inebriated conduct became uncouth and said foul words to a tube worker following which he swung a bottle at him. He made racist comments and that he would break the bottle in his face. The British Transport Police officials were called in to control the situation and Macius was duly arrested.
Miguel Orjales, BTP PC, said that it must have been a scary experience for the employee to be threatened of getting hit with a bottle but the good thing is that he was not harmed and hopefully will feel that the jailing of Macius is a just punishment for his behaviour.
On Thursday, the 25th of March, the Brent Magistrates’ Court accepted Macius’ guilty plea of having acted in a racist manner, thus heightening the threat of causing harm to the staff member of the London Underground rail service. He was sentenced to an imprisonment of five weeks duration plus another extra week for having been absent on the previous court hearing date. Along with this punishment, he was also directed to compensate the staff member with £100.
The manager of London Underground’s Workplace Violence Unit, Aidan Harris, stated that it was evident that Macius was a threat to his self and other individuals who were around him and this form of violent conduct is not something that they will stand for. He was of the opinion that this five-week gaol term will be a clear indicator that they will not allow any form of mistreatment or attack against any member of their staff who are merely doing their work.
